Default 16v on 12v car relay

hi,
will a 12v SPDT Automotive relay hold up on 16v. I used a micro on the V glide to control my new solenoid(conza) but the micro is only rated at 1/2 amp at 12v so I wired in a relay using 16v from 2 batteries.
anyone with any experiance with this.

A 12 volt automotive system on average runs at about 13.8 to just over 14 volts. If the relay is being used to control a momentary circuit it will most likely work OK. If it is a constant on circuit it will more than likely get hot and burn out the coil as the coil windings are not that heavy. Why not just get a regular 36 or 48 volt (as determined by the voltage of your cart) coil solenoid and use the large contacts to make / break the circuit

Take an ohm meter and measure the energizing coil, tell me what that reading is and I can calculate the resistor value you would need to put in series with the coil to get back to 12V.
