Re: mid 90 g8 rev limiter
did you remove the 'speed limiter' on the top of the diff if it had one?

Re: mid 90 g8 rev limiter
I have a '94 G8 and the factory rev limiter is contained in the igniter which is the brain for the ignition system. As far as I know, there is no way to disable it, so I installed a programmable MSD ignition on mine and reset the limit to 5000. You can check your by putting it in neutral and revving it up while reading the tach. I think it's factory limited to around 4000-4200 RPM. The engine will cycle back and forth at the limit point, but won't run any faster.

Re: mid 90 g8 rev limiter
I'm still intreasted on if anyone has removed the rev limiter I know it's built in to the tci but I heard you can snip a wire and unleash more rpms. I understand that it's just a wire that's grounded to interrupt the coil but I don't know which one and if it can be disconnected .

Re: mid 90 g8 rev limiter
Likely a G2 ignitor, they are limited. G9 however (what 1991 and newer?) are not. You can swap a G2 to a G9 ignitor by changing one wire iirc. They are not cheap or easy to find however. I think I saw 5K rpm on my G9 on 22s, it would hit 30gps on pavement just a screaming. You can make a different ignition with no limiter some say it works fine, I dunno because the yami ignition retards the timing at idle and others do not. If someone wants to, get on tntgolf site and check the part numbers for G8/2/9 ignitors and see if the 8 and 2 are the same.
Since the limiter is inside the ignitor, I have never seen anyone mod one. |
