Re: DIY 101 - 14 cell Nissan Leaf lithium pack
I was hoping it wouldn’t take out a cell when it happened and especially now because I’ve felt like such an idiot since I found out I killed one.
Wire 13 from the BMS was connected to both middle terminals of module 13 and 14. The wiring diagram I followed for wiring the BMS to the busbars was from the 14 module build with the ZEVA BMS. Is this wiring still correct when using a Chinese BMS? The last screen shot I got read this. 4.015 4.016 4.017 4.010 4.012 4.014 4.025 4.016 4.017 4.024 4.012 4.013 4.016 4.151 |

That last cell is pretty far out of balance. The others look fine. You should discharge that last cell down to the voltage of the others. It will take a BMS quite a while to do that with that much imbalance.

How did cell 13 measure at 0v. Check your voltage again as the BMS is reporting that it's OK.

Re: DIY 101 - 14 cell Nissan Leaf lithium pack
I tried looking for the schematic for wiring the BMS to a 14 module pack but can’t find it. I’m 99% sure it was wired correctly… Shrug
When I check each cell in each module I measure from the balance terminal to the positive for one cell and then from the balance terminal to the negative post. Again I’m 99% sure this is correct as well. I don’t know what has happened at this point I have the new battery ordered. I expect it to be here delivered next week sometime. I have a headlight bulb connected to the one high cell to drain off some of the extra power. So it should be good to go when the new module comes in. Fingers crossed! Ben |

Re: DIY 101 - 14 cell Nissan Leaf lithium pack
Ben, you’re confusing me here. Cell 13 and cell 14 are part of the same module, if cell 13 is bad and you’re replacing the module, why do you feel the need to drain cell 14? It will be replaced too.
Have you checked cell 13 with a multimeter directly across the cell terminals? If not, please do this as I’m not convinced you have a bad cell 13. I also re-read your previous posts and realised you have 14 modules, are you connecting two modules in parallel? Cheers Pat. |

Re: DIY 101 - 14 cell Nissan Leaf lithium pack
That IS a bit continuing. I apologize.
I have a 14 modular pack. MODUAL 13 has the bad cell. The bad cell in module 13 is paralleled with the high cell in module 14. This is the one part that logically makes sense to me out of all this. Lol. The one cell is bad so it can’t take any power therefore giving it all to the high cell. To determine I had a bad cell, yes I pulled all the busbars and stared testing each individual cell with my multimeter which will only read in the hundredths place by the way. The bad cell in module 13 reads 0.00. Something to note is I DID check all the cells in the same manor when I received them and they were all near balanced. Therefore, this is unfortunately something I did. Ben Edit: new module is expected to be here on Tuesday! |

Re: DIY 101 - 14 cell Nissan Leaf lithium pack
That cell that is at zero must have lost an internal connection. The cell itself is certainly not really at zero or you would have had something interesting happen when the cell was in parallel with a live cell.

I wouldn't mess with it. But you should discharge it and recycle it properly.
