Problems starting/ getting power
Hi guys!
I have a 1988 Ez Go Marathon. The thing starts up and then barely wants to do a couple laps around the yard and acts dead. Battery is less than a year old but I pulled it and had tested anyhow. New spark plugs. Charging system good, coils good, spark, fuel, compression all good. Headlights and reverse beeper still work but when I push the gas it sounds like it’s getting very little and sometimes no power at all. Any suggestions? Thanks! Also, it seems to start back up after sitting for hours on the battery tender. Even though the battery is already charged? Makes no sense.

Re: Problems starting/ getting power
Here is your manual. I need to get some work done outside, so I don't have time to ask a few questions before troubleshooting.
My first thought is that if it's definitely an electrical issue, I would lean towards hidden corrosion in the positive battery cable. I will have questions later, but for now bypass that cable, and see what happens. |

Re: Problems starting/ getting power
Thank you. I will go mess around with the positive cable and see if I can find anything. My next guesses are solenoid, f/r switch, or generator..but I don’t want to just start buying things lol.

Re: Problems starting/ getting power
If the crankshaft case seals are bad it will hardly run. With the engine running, spray some flammable aerosol(supertech brake cleaner) at the seal where the crankshaft comes out of the case(clutchside) and if it revs up the seal is bad.

Re: Problems starting/ getting power
Well once it engages it seems to run fine speed wise and drives around the yard. But, when I let off the pedal to slow down and go to press it again it’s like the battery is completely dead with no juice. (Which it’s not)

Re: Problems starting/ getting power
I tried that last time it died on me and was still getting 12.6 volts. Everything else works too, headlights are bright, rear beeper loud.
