G9 Backup Light Installed
I just finished installing a backup light on my G9 and am really pleased with the way it turned out. I am sure I am not the first to do this, but I may have put a new twist on it.
The light itself is no big deal…just a tractor/utility light you can pick up at most any Wal-Mart or TSC. I mounted it under the bed (basket) so it would be out of the way of bushes and stuff. The twist is that I wired it up so that it only comes on when the buggy is in reverse AND the headlights are on. I used a relay. I ran the power to the relay from the headlights, and then ran the switched power to the backup light. This relay uses a contact closure to trip the relay (short two terminals together to activate it). So, I ran those wires to the micro switch that controls the backup alarm. I had already unplugged that irritation-device and was not going to use the noisemaker anymore (in fact, I mounted the relay where the alarm was). I cut the connector off of the micro-switch wires and wired the red & black wires to the contactor wires. I could post some pics if anyone is interested, but I am sure I prolly ain’t the first one to do this. It sure was nice when I backed out of my basement shop into the darkness and had plenty of light behind me! |

I thinks thats a great idea! I'm all thumbs when it comes to electrical but that a good excuse to rid the world of the noise maker and make something useful from it!

Re: G9 Backup Light Installed
Good job Niner. And I actually do this on my cart as well. I even suggested it last week to someone on here. It is a must have in my opinion if you use your cart at night. Especially off roading. You can never have enough lights. My G16 up front, I installed a second set of lights on a separate switch just for backup. Nothing worse than being out on trails and losing lights. Been there one time and don't plan on it happening again.

I wouldn't be without a backup light. Mine is just a switch on the dash, I like your idea with the relay...very cool.
