Using the schematic and wiring diagram as a reference, let's troubleshoot. (Power is off)

1. Back at the beginning, let's go to the potbox. Unplug the black and white wires coming out of the inside of the box itself and connect to your ohhmeter. Should be close to 0 ohms. Press accelerator and should go smoothly from about 0 up to 5000 ohms as you press the accelerator.

2. Unplug the encoder and unplug the controller. Then measure the ohms at the harness between the green and red wire of where the encoder WAS plugged in. That should be 10k ohms as that's where the resister would have been across. The controller gets programmed for that reference resistance.

Start with those two things.

Go back to the main harness. There should be a label near the 16 pin connector with a part number on it. Let's verify that. Being a 2004 makes it more difficult to know what it really has.

Looking for a white label wrapped around the harness itself about 6” or so from the connector. That is whee columbia attaches the harness part number.

Did it work before? Only have to reprogram if it was programmed wrong and never worked or if something else was changed and not original.
