Default 1981 Ezgo axle seal replacement

I am working on a 1981 Ezgo with a bad axle seal. The brakes are oil soaked. I have the shop rebuild and service parts manual for the 1988 - 1995. I have not been able to find anything specific to the '81. Would the procedure for replacing seal be about the same.

I have the outer snap ring off. The bearing will move out about 1/4 inch on the shaft. Before removing the snap ring the shaft had about 3/32nds end play. There seems to be no side play between axle shaft and bearing.

This cart needs batteries, battery racks and tires, but that will probably not happens this season while the owner is in the south. The cart will be used probably only a couple of miles a day. The goal is to get him safe brakes for now.

Any help will be appreciated.

'81 EZGO ELECTRIC

Rear Axle and seal removal

Which procedure??

1. Just like later models and pull axle out with force.

OR

2. Remove cover of differential and remove circlip from inner end of axle as on
some autos.

OK I guess it is time to answer my own question.

Suspected there would be no difference between '81 and '88.

BUT did not want to chance breaking anything on a cart that is not mine.

Slide hammer did the trick.
