Reducer to toggle switch
I have a 30 amp voltage reducer for my RXV 48 volt cart. Ok so I do not want to hook my "key switch" wire to my key switch due to the fact that it could burn up the switch. I want to hook my key switch wire up to a 12 volt toggle switch. It's hard to find a 48 volt switch so I'm going to use a 12 volt 30 amp switch. From what I understand, it's not the volts that will ruin a switch, it's the amps. So running 48 volts into a 12 volt switch should not be a problem. Has anyone done this set up before? I actually hooked mine up this way and I got power for a second or 2 then I lost power. I don't understand what went wrong. I ran power from my positive on battery number one to the toggle switch for power, than ran another wire from toggle switch to the "key switch" wire so that when it's flipped to the on position then it creates a circuit to activate the reducer. Please help. Thanks for your replies.

Re: Reducer to toggle switch
Why not try this instead. Hook your reducer - to pack -, hook your reducer + to the switched side of the solenoid (the large terminal that goes from the solenoid to the controller). In a RXV, it is the safest way. And, the solenoid is always on when the key is on, always off when the key is off.

Re: Reducer to toggle switch
You need to talk to the RXV guys, because they said something about messing with the RXV wiring system can do bad things to your cart

Re: Reducer to toggle switch
Yes. Also I failed to mention that before I hooked the switch up, last night a did a test and I manually touched the yellow wire to battery 1 one the positive side (of course) and held it there with my finger and my reducer worked correctly because my 12 volt light came on. Then today I hooked the yellow to a 12 volt 30 amp toggle switch and as soon as I flipped it on the switch got hot. In theory I've done nothing different with the yellow wire except the fact that I hooked it up to a switch. Also my 12 volt positive and negative coming from reducer is hooked to a fuse block. I also ran one black wire from the negative fuse block to the ground on my switch, that way my led light on the switch would operate so I'd know to turn the switch off so my reducer don't stay on.

Re: Reducer to toggle switch
And do what with the yellow wire (the wire that completes the circuit)

Re: Reducer to toggle switch
You could do reducer - to pack -, reducer + to pack +, yellow "key" to large solenoid -> controller. Dont hook anything to the rxv keyswitch, you will be doing a controller if you do that.

Re: Reducer to toggle switch
Only thing I have against hooking it to solenoid is that I'd have to have the key turned to the on or FNR for the reducer to operate. I don't want to run batteries down by leaving key switch on.
