well I figure the motor is supposed to gain 20%. so that coupled with the gear swap I'm hoping to have about the same speed as now but with alot more torque from motor and gears combined.

PQ claims a 20% increase in torque (and speed), so you'll end up with about a 13% net gain over what you had with stock motor and gears with a SPM400 controller.

A D&D 170-004-0001 motor has a 40% increase in torque for a 33% net gain.

Also, up the pack voltage to 48V will give up an addition 33% increase in torque.
Johnnieb do you mind using your great calculating skills to show the difference in speed and torque of my current set up and with swapping gears and pq motor with a more realistic motor gain of 15%. .

stock motor + 12.44 gears + 23" tires
versus
15% motor + 14.76 gears + 23" tires

stock motor + 12.44 gears + 23" tires
versus
15% motor + 14.76 gears + 23" tires
For a baseline: A stock motor + 12.44:1 gears + stock height (18") tires will give you about 14 MPH with the motor spinning at 3252RPM.

Upping the tire height to 23" increases the speed to 17.9 MPH @ 3254RPM (28% increase), but decreases torque by 22%.

With 23" tires and 14.76:1 gears, the speed increases to 15.1 MPH (3257RPM) which is about an 8% increase, and the torque decrease is 7%.

Since the source of torque the motor, changes in motor torque carry straight through the final drive ratio. So with 23" tires, a 15% increase in torque at the motor works out to a net loss of 7% with 12.44:1 gears and a net gain of 8% with 14.76:1 gears.

The same is true with motor RPM. A 15% increase in motor RPM will theoretically produce 20.6 MPH with 12.44:1 gears and 23" tires and 17.4 MPH with 14.76gears and 23" tires.

Of course, you won't see the theoretical speed numbers since there are more factors involved than just tire heights and gear ratios. IE: taller tires take more torque to turn, so the max motor RPM reached for a given voltage is lower with taller tires.

Hope this helps.

thank you.

about what I expect. same to 1 mph loss and approximately 28-30 % torque ib increase from current setup.

I have an EZGO shuttle 4. It’s a 36 volt motor running 48 volts through it. I was running 16 mph and had a decent amount of torque. After doing the Bandit upgrade, I’m over 21 mph and now the tires will spin for second before grabbing when going in reverse. Once I put in new batteries (these are 5 years old), should gain some top end speed. I’d recommend the upgrade for the price.
