Upgraded to 48v -- how to secure batteries...

My cart is a EZGO TXT (06') and i recently pulled the 6 Trojan T-105's out and replaced them with 6 Crown 8v batteries. I have to problems..... one of the metal securing posts (in the battery tray) has rotted out so I can't use a j-hook there. The 2nd issue - even if that wasn't rotted out--- the stock battery securing block from EZGO wont work on the crown batteries because the 8v crowns have terminals and batter cell caps in different positions.

So -- Ideas on how to secure the batteries? The battery tray is in good shape other than the missing hold-down...... SO I don't want to swap it. Any ideas or pictures would be nice..... I was thinking ratchet straps? Large Wire-ties?

The new 48v txts use the same tray. The new plastic block for the top is notched to fit 8v batts, you can easily make yours work too (looks very similar to the one you have, a little saw action will make it identical). The bottom part is slightly more complicated. You can fabricate a new tab, or buy a new tray (the whole battery tray bolts to the carts frame). You would have to pull the rear roof supports, and remove a few rivets from the body after removing the rubber floor mat (which requires removing the chrome "boot rails" from the body) to replace the tray. To make new tabs, i take a peice of 1" -1/8" flat steel stock and drill it for the threaded battery rod, then use a grinder to make a slot to fit the bottom, then weld it in. Zip ties and bailing wire are only going to dissapoint you in this repair job. Do you want to do it cheap 10 times, or do it right once. If the answer is "cheap", get lots of zip ties. Remember, each of those batteries weigh 62 pounds, dont really want those flying around on every bump.

When i switched to 8 volts i just dremeled and notched the plastic hold down piece to fit. Works like a charm.

The ole top notch keeps integrity and that's best but, I have seen many cut a center section out with success too.
