Well with the age of your batteries and now knowing that at least 2 cells have surely been compromised its a crap shoot as to weather or not they can salvage themselves to some degree or another..... Exposed plates coupled with useage and/or charging is akin to nails in the casket....

Time to let the battery rest least 6 to 8 hours and check voltage as well as specific gravity of the cells with an acid tester. I think your going to find that you've got cells that are sub par. Load testing would likely show that the battery are weak. How long you can get by on those battery is hard to say and since 50 % of your pack is questionable you will need to replace them all...

Would the batteries in this shape make the charger never cut off?

Yes as they are not able to accept the bulk charge and gain the voltage needed for the charger to sense turn off voltage...

Your battery are toast... That's only 75 % SOC

Not really much to it...

After installing new batteries allow the charger to fully charge and shut off before taking it out for use.

Whenever not in use keep plugged into charger.

For the first ten outtings try to use at least 10 % (50.5v) to 25 % (49.75v) after that simply never run your batteries down past 50 % (48.4v) for longest life.

Whenever not in use keep plugged into charger.

Never allow your plates to become exposed (cover 1/4" to 3/8") with distilled water.

Whenever not in use keep plugged into charger.
