06 PDS won't go
I'm new to the electric carts. The problem I have started intermitent. Sometimes it would go and other times it wouldn't. Now it won't go at all. The solenoid is clicking when you push the pedal and the voltage is good. I checked the voltage on the motor side of the solenoid and it is about .5 volts lower than the battery side with the key on and in forward gear. I read one of the threads and it talked about jumping straight to the motor to see if it runs. Is that what I should do next.

Check the F1&F2 cables for worn through insulation where the are routed around the battery frame.

Re: 06 PDS won't go
Thanks JohnnieB, I just went out and checked the F1 & F2 cables and they look real good. They were tied up real good with the A1 & A2 cables. I cut all the ties and couldn't find any worn places.

Re: 06 PDS won't go
A stock PDS motor is the the most substantial component in the entire PDS drive system and seldom fail, but they do fail occasionally, so it cannot be ruled out entirely.
If the solenoid is clicking when the pedal is pushed, the problem is in the high current circuit. Measure the pack voltage and remember what it is. Connect your DVM between the B- and M- (labeled A1 or some PDS controllers). Push the pedal just far enough to make solenoid click and you should read FULL pack voltage. If you don't get FULL pack voltage, either the motor is bad or the cables connected to are bad. If you do get full pack voltage, push pedal to floor and the voltage should decrease to zero. IF it doesn't, measure the ITS voltages. The attached troubleshooting tree tells you how and what to look for. |

Re: 06 PDS won't go
Ok, my pack voltage reads 37.2 then when I connect to A1 in the controller the voltage reads 34.6. When you push the pedal voltage drops to 3.0 then as you push the pedal down about half way it goes to 0 then at the bottom the voltage starts jumping around and starts coming back up.

2. Measure the pack voltage when you push pedal to floor. The normal pack voltage drop is about 1.0V per 100A of current draw and if the motor isn't spinning, or something smoking, the current flow is far less than 100A. ----- I gotta go for now - be back in morning. |

Re: 06 PDS won't go
Ok JohnnieB, I did not word my reply correctly. When I pushed the pedal to just make the solenoid click the voltage dropped form 27.2 all the way down to 3.0 volts. Then as I pushed the pedal down the voltage dropped to 0 volts then all the way at the bottom the voltage started to jump around and come back up to 34 volts. Even with the cart jacked up with no load on the tires nothing turns. I did the second test you suggested and the pack voltage does not drop at all when I push the pedal to make the solenoid click. I held the pedal down for a while and nothing got hot or smoked. I cleaned all the connections and nothing was loose. Can I connect jumper cables to the A1 & A2 terminals on the motor and see if the motor will run like that?
Thanks very much for all your help. |

Re: 06 PDS won't go
OK I ran the test on the motor with 18 volts with the cart lifted off the floor. The motor ran so the only thing left is the controller or the pedal switch...I think. The pedal switch makes the solenoid click,so does that mean that is good? So what should I do next?
