1998 EZGO TXT - Motor Issues / (Plum Quick Now?)
I thought I'd ask the guru's here because I'm mechanically DE-clined when it comes to electric motors and electrical components..
I bought a '98 EZGO TXT (36v, DCS - series, lifted cart with an Alltrax AXE 4844 controller, and the OEM 36v stock solenoid) about three weeks ago knowing that the rear end needed to be replaced, so, I put it in the shop to get a bid on how much it would cost. My mech diagnosed the entire cart. I need a new differential (which was completely out of oil) and batteries because my batteries will only hold/charge to about 50%. He did see it run though... while up on jack stands, with the best charge on my batteries that he could get and zero resistance on the tires from the ground, he depressed the acc pedal but nothing happened. He then reached back and hand-spun one of the tires which enabled the motor to begin turning on its own, under it's own power with the pedal down. It took the "head start" by hand to get any revolutions out of the motor, however. He believes that the motor must've been extremely hot at some point and that it needs to be replaced. So here are my questions: - Does anyone have any experience rebuilding a motor that has similar issues? - What components could be replaced or is the motor just shot altogether? - Would doing the Plum Quick "Bandit" upgrade replace the necessary components to fix my motor? - Is it possible that the weak battery pack could be the issue for the motor stall? He is doing an axle swap for me from another 98 TXT with a good rear end and motor. So now I will have a good 36v motor already on my "new" axle and the 36v motor that is having the issues initiating revolutions on it's own. I'd like to try and either re-build the motor and sell it, OR if the Plum Quick upgrade will suffice I will have that done and install it on my cart and sell the "new" 36v motor. What say of ye experienced ones? And thanks in advance! |

The description of your cart contains some conflicting information.
A DCS is a SepEx drive system (Shunt wound motor) and an AXE controller is for a Series drive system (Series wound motor). |

You're right. I have a series wound motor for sure.
