If you are thinking about going to 6 X 8V, be sure to order cables that work with 8V batteries, they have both posts on same side and the cables for 6V batteries are too short. The longer 8V cables will work with 6V batteries, but not the other way around.

As for 8V batteries, if you can find them and afford them, Trojan Ranger 160 8V batteries have the highest AH capacity of commonly used 8V batteries. In fact, a 48V pack of them will have nearly the same range as your existing 48V pack of US 1800 batteries. (204AH vs 208AH - see attached cart.)

If you don't need the range (run-time), 170AH 8V batteries will give you about the same range as a stock (225AH) 36V pack.
