low Battery voltage on one battery
I have acquired a 1996 ezgo txt dcs 36v, Just got referb t105's batteries 2 months ago, during the time had put a new controller on. Finally started riding noticed one battery was warm on the side, then started smelling rotten eggs few days later. Check voltage after a charge it was( -.2v) from the rest, after riding for a day it was 2.3v the others was 5.9v.
I carried back to dealer said it was normal, and load tested and said it was fine this was before i started smell the rotten eggs.. I'm new to the golf cart world, its getting addictive. I feel like its bad, but not sure, just would like another opinion. |

Re: low Battery voltage on one battery
In my opinion there really is no such thing as a refurb battery. There are used battery, there are new battery and there are blem battery. There is no true refurbishment or magic recipe for batteries. I'd make sure that is was not left out of the charging loop which does not sound like the case as you said it charged to -.2 of the other batteries. Dropping voltage at a faster rate than the other batteries is a sure sign of a bad cell or two; this I know as I bought a refurbished and quite expensive cart that was sold with crappy batteries that needed replacement as soon as I rolled it off the shipping skid....

Re: low Battery voltage on one battery
When you get all good batteries in the pack, don't take them below 50% SoC (State of Charge). Voltage vs SoC chart attached.
Running them down to 5.9V (30% SoC) as mentioned in your first post will reduce their usable lifespan. Also, a stock DCS controller (Curtis 1206SX) has no low voltage protection and will fail if you run it on low voltage. Of course, you may have measured to voltage immediately after the cart stopped moving and the battery voltage hadn't had time to recover. The batteries in a 36V pack drop about 1.0V per 100A of current being drawn and it takes some time for the voltage to recover after the amps stop being drawn. The recover actually lasts over an hour, but most of it occurs in the first few minutes and half an hour is what I use when I do any serious battery testing. |
