Default 36v ezgo regen motor noise

Working on an EZGO regen with a noise when pedal is released. Sound like a rasping noise from the motor area. Has anyone ever experience a field winding coming lose and contacting the armature during regen breaking? Motor and cart run fine under acceleration and steady pedal.

Heard a sound like that - it turned out to be the input shaft. Replaced it and the bearings after it got much worse.

This only occurs on deceleration. Did you experience that?

I had the armature and field get together during regen, but the only sound I heard was the rear tires screeching on the pavement.

During regen braking, the force is being applied to the trailing edge of the teeth on the gears instead of the leading edge, so the sound might be coming from the differential. Using gear oil instead of motor oil might quieten it down.

Also, check the motor's brushes.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll put it on Jack stands and stethoscope the various areas to see where it is located.

Yes, my customer complained of the noise when he let off the gas for the longest time... finally got bad enough to fix. The noise went away after a new input shaft with bearings was installed

I'll make sure to inspect for that. Thank you.

also look at armature.
could be shifting back and forth contacting brush holders.
(took a while to find that one)

The situation has degraded to the point where I can hold the cart from moving with the pedal depressed. Checked both hubs and they aren't stripped. Can hear motor running and feel resistance but no grinding. I am assuming the limited slip friction discs are toast. Does anyone have experience with this?

Just to get everybody on the same page, what is the model and year of cart.

I'm not 100% sure of this, but I don't know of any 36V regen carts coming from the factory with a limited slip differential.
