Freedom chip question?
i put the freeom chip in my 01 PDS i've just now had time to put my knees in the breeze on it and was going down a long hill ( not too steep) an the cart topped out about 18 MPH i could hear the regen braking coming on i thought the freedom chip eliminated that ??

Re: Freedom chip question?
No.
The PDS controller (Curtis 1206MX) limits the top speed to either a bit over the top speed for whichever mode it is in, or the top speed of the Freedom Mode. I don't remember which mode I was running in, but the fastest my cart ever got when I was running a stock PDS controller was just under 20MPH going down a hill so steep the cart could barely climb it with 17" tall tires, which was giving me nearly 6% more than stock torque. |

Quote:
At 36V, you will get about 24MPH on stock height (18") tires. The XCT also limits cart speed going downhill, but max RPM is user programmable up to 8000RPM. FWIW: I exploded my stock PDS motor going downhill at full throttle. I had a DCX at the time, which doesn't have RPM limiting. The motor was spinning about 8000RPM at the time, but it wasn't RPM alone that killed the motor, it was a combination of RPM and heat and regen braking. The motor was about 220°F before I climbed the last hill and it was spinning happily at 8000RPM until I let my foot off the throttle and the regen braking kicked in. Fortunately, both rear tires locked up when the motor seized and the cart was controllable. The motor took out the controller when the armature came apart, so my cart budget got a double whammy. |

Re: Freedom chip question?
"Freedom" = free to go 19mph, not freedom to spin the motor to 12k down a hill (& blow it up).
