My cart caught on fire!
My '98 ezgo txt that was converted to a bad boy buggy caught on fire this evening. My cart set up for about 5 years during a divorce so I finally replaced all the batteries. After installing the new batteries and reconnecting all the wires, things went bad wrong.
First it blew the lights (aftermarket headlights), then the winch started smoking and the winch which caught on fire. Everything has been cut off and disconnected since. Any advice? |

Re: My cart caught on fire!
I hope your ok and everyone else is ok too.
My BBB used two of the six volt batteries for the twelve volt lights and the twelve volt winch. It sounds like you may have re-attached the light and winch wires to the whole 48 volt pack. That would blow the lights and the winch. |

Re: My cart caught on fire!
How do I isolate the two batteries from the 48 volt pack?

Re: My cart caught on fire!
dont-bad for the pack...get a voltage reducer from scottyb....that way you use the whole pack and keep the pack in balance-extending pack life...

Re: My cart caught on fire!
Whole pack DC reducer will be fine with the lights, radio, and whatever else 12v accessories you have but, the reducer will not handle a winch. The seldom use winch will have to be connected to 2 6v batteries in the pack. This shouldn't hurt anything unless you are using it often. Then you will have to replenish these 2 batteries with a supplemental charge.

Re: My cart caught on fire!
You can do that with a 36v cart and get 12v from two connected batteries using the plus terminal from one and the negative from the other. You can do that with a 48v cart if you have 8 - 6 volt batteries. If you do that with a 48v cart with 6 - 8v batteries you will get 16v.

Re: My cart caught on fire!
How do I connect to just two batteries and keep an accessory (winch), isolated from the entire 48 volt pack?
Saw your post as soon as I posted my reply. Thanks! I will order a reducer later today. Last edited by Spitnhit; 03-04-2016 at 09:02 AM.. Reason: Saw a reply right after I posted. |
