Please do and give us a review. I want to do this to mine before deer season.

Re: Plowman's still make limited slip differentials?
I sent my differential in a few months ago, and it came back machined, posi installed, synthetic lube included. I hope to be up and running soon, finally making some progress over some technical hurdles with the Lithium battery pack.

Re: Plowman's still make limited slip differentials?
Nice pic!! Yeah, that's what a limited slip looks like installed. Always remember, don't add any "regular" types of oil in the rear end. The petroleum base oils will destroy the clutch material in the LTD slip. Then your back to a factory limited slip.

Re: Plowman's still make limited slip differentials?
Yeah, Don Plowman made that abundantly clear. I used about 5 cans of brake cleaner to make sure there was not a drop of regular oil in the axles or housing or any of the parts that went back in.

Re: Plowman's still make limited slip differentials?
I don't have any pic's yet.....I will post when I do.....but I got a txt from my nephew. He "finally" got around to pulling the axles and dropping the unit. I'll pick it up this weekend, clean it up and ship it to Don.

Re: Plowman's still make limited slip differentials?
Here's the unit with the worn out EZ-GO LTD Slip. Sending it to Plowman's today. I don't believe you can tell the existing LTD Slip is worn out by just looking at these pics. I can only assume you can when the unit is out. However, when I look at the unit where it is close to the pinion gear, there are some circular scrapes that are consistent with the gear turning. (If that makes sense)

Re: Plowman's still make limited slip differentials?
Well, I got a call from Don today. Bad news. My spyder gears are shot. Apparently the existing unit had degenerated and lost some metal....thereby causing said metal to get in between the spyder gears.....and well.....this pic pretty much say's it all. OTOH, Don does keep in stock new "units" when these issues crop up. The good news is I didn't "let it go" until it all got so bad it destroyed everything. The rockwell hardness of these gears has been compromised. So, a new set will go in.

I also got the bill $$$ for the install of the LTD Slip and the repair (replacement) of the spyder gear unit. Oh well......it's only money. Right?

Re: Plowman's still make limited slip differentials?
I received my "new" and improved differential from Plowman's yesterday. Below are some pic's of the new unit with a Plowman's LDT Slip installed. It may be hard to see the difference between the old one as I posted above, but "up close and personal" the difference is obvious. I can actually see the clutch material on the Plowman's unit. I could not see any on the old unit. Plus, the metal which the clutch material is pressed into appears to be a stronger metal. Why? Because the holding pin holes on the Plowman's are drilled in and when Don removed these pins, there was no hole disfiguration. On the old unit, the metal was "swaged like" when the pin holding piece was removed.
Now all that needs done is to JB Weld the small magnet on the bottom of the oil pan, and install the unit. I'll post how well this works when I get that phase completed. |
