Re: 09 rxv 48 volt auto brake
The brake switch opens at about 60% pedal travel, to apply the EM brake (motor brake) for emergency stopping. The brake encoder sends a pedal position signal to the controller and that is of higher importance for brake pedal position. The throttle zero switch however toggles right on the edge of pedal movement, so if the pedal does not return even a small amount, it will not pass. The throttle encoder and brake encoder are of the same part number.

Re: 09 rxv 48 volt auto brake
Ok, next thing to check is the motor brake. It appears to be operating, but it might be outside of allowable specs and failing another test, drawing too much current. Unplug the 2 pin harness wire from the motor brake at the end of the motor. Using a low ohms range, measure the resistance of the motor brake coil. The normal range is 25 to 28 ohms. Too high and it might not pass enough current to pass test, too low and it might draw too much current to pass test. If it is below 20 ohms, consider it bad and replace it. The run/tow switch bypasses the controller, so current is not tested. It just powers it to release it.
Motor brakes and batteries are the most common problem seen with RXVs. Next is wiring harness problems. There are splices that corrode and acid from the batteries can get into the harness, causing the wires to leak voltage into adjacent wires. |
