How Fast Before Stock Electric Motor Grenades??
Hi Guys/Gals,
I've been rebuilding a flooded cart and the good news is that I finally have it on the road. I rebuilt on the cheap (as I could). The cart is a 2006 Precedent with the 48v IQ system. The field drivers in the controller blew so I made a separate field current controller and redid a few parts in the controller to make it think this part is ok so it would run the armature current. To get to the point, with my independent field controller I can go as low as I like on field weakening and get some pretty high speeds on this cart. In the first test I had my wife follow in the car and I saw 16mph. I lowered the field more and I bet I saw 25 mph or better during a short run on stock size tires and the cart was still speeding up. Doing this for long would likely burn up the motor as I'm consuming big current, but I'm wondering how fast you guys have seen stock motors go and live to tell the tale. At some point the armature would just sling apart... |

If you push over 6000 rpm you will not last long on a stock motor....

Scottyb from Carts Unlimited (site sponsor) opines that motor temperature is almost as important as rpm when working out these limits and has been experimenting with temperature sensors glued to the motor casing. Shoot him an email or PM if you want his findings. |

Thanks for the info so far. Does anyone know the stock gear ratio so I can work out ground speed to rpm?

Re: How Fast Before Stock Electric Motor Grenades??
Too troublesome. Stick to a good ole 4.11/4.56 posi for street a 5.14 on 1/8 mile and if you have a Dana 60, go with a 6.50 the 1/4 mile!
