Wiring LED light bar
Long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks for all the help via old threads. Been nursing a barn find 1990 DS back to her former glory. One of the last items on my checklist is an LED bar to use for general lighting. Just a little 12” guy. Purchased the light and wiring harness and thought I was getting a rocker switch without a light (to avoid this problem). I have everything wired up and lights work, but now I realize there is a light on the rocker. I am worried about power drain. I managed to wire my power meter through the key switch, but I know it can take all 36v.
So, is there a way to wire up via the key switch? Here is the diagram for my harness: http://mictuning.com/mictuning-led-l...ail_p0054.html Thanks in advance. Sorry if this has been beat to death elsewhere. I’m looking forward to sharing my progress soon. |

Re: Wiring LED light bar
I am assuming Your +12v source is not controlled by the key switch.
The easiest way would be to just disconnect the black wire from Terminal #7 on that back of the switch. That negative is for the LED that is always ON, the other LED that lights up when the switch is ON will still work. |

I’m happy with this solution, but open to any method anyone has for a fix that runs the wiring through the key switch. Wouldn’t mind the horn operating that way as well.

Re: Wiring LED light bar
Are You using a separate battery for 12v?
Regardless of the source, use a relay wired like below to switch the +12v On/Off with your 36v key switch: This is the 36v relay you need: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail...g3TKX2%2f0A%3d Last edited by Sergio; 05-15-2018 at 08:49 PM.. Reason: Relay Information. |

Re: Wiring LED light bar
Currently just running through two of the batteries, not a dedicated battery.
The relay I’m using just came with the harness. I’ll look into the difference between the two and likely purchase one that you mentioned. Thanks again, excellent info. |

Re: Wiring LED light bar
You can keep using your existing 12v relay.
Just disconnect the wire that goes to your +12v battery connection and run it though the contacts of that 36v relay. That way when your turn the key switch OFF it will interrupt the +12v power to any/all accessories you have. If You read around the site you probably already know that tapping 2 batteries will be an issue if you use your accessories a lot. |
