2010 RXV Shackle Issue

My neighbor has this RXV that has developed an issue on the driver side. When he sits in the cart, the rear shackle collapses down far enough to hit the dual action spring. When he gets off the cart, it doesn't spring back. The spring still has an arch to it and the bushings probably need to be replaced, just not sure why it's not springing back up. Thoughts?

I've seen where the spring was a little too long and did that. Replaced with the right spring and back to normal again.

He's had this cart for 8 years and just started doing this. But maybe it a little flatter than the passenger side which would make it a little longer? Grasping at straws here.

The problem is the bushings. When the front one goes bad it allows the spring to move. Replace the front bushing and the shackle bushings and it will fix it.

Check all the bushings. There is an upper and lower set on the rear shackle and a big one in front of the leaf spring. Just did them on a 2001. Do fronts first while back is still attached. Much easier. 👍

Or use a hydraulic porta-power and extend the wheel well curve in the cart frame. I know that sounds far fetched but I have done it more than once to correct the same problem resulting from a lick in the back end that had shortened the frame by an inch causing exactly what you describe. ( Assuming the bushes aren't the problem. )

I have had to do this plenty of times on a TXT, but never on an RXV. The curve of the rear of the frame is much lower and the rails are stiffer. My bet is on the bushes.

I agree, the most likely culprit is shattered bushings. But if not, if the shackle is laying down, then the bare bones fact is that either the spring is too long ( lost temper and flattened ) or the frame section has become shortened. One of the two has got to be true.

Update: rngillilan hit it on the head. It was the front bushing that was shattered. I replaced front and rear and everything all good now. Thanks for the help guys!!
