Default Left Tail Light Stays On

Went for a ride last night and when I got home I noticed the left tail light was on. The light switch was in off position. I use a 12 V accessory battery and ground to the battery or to the pack-- I don't use the chassis of the cart. All connections seemed okay.
Bad switch?

More then likely you have a short somewhere, you will need to check your wires closely to find it, try moving them around until you find it, if that does not work, check the light itself.

So, I had a chance to work on the cart this weekend. I charged the 12 volt accessory battery to full charge and the left tail light no longer stays on

All accesories are grounded to the negative post of the accesory battery-- Can a weak battery mimic a short?

I would like to think no, normally when you describe a condition like this there is a short somewhere, keep an eye on it and let us know.

If the tops of the batteries are damp (electrolyte) they are conductive, so a lot of strange things can happen.
Not saying yours are, only that phantom circuits can exist and do mysterious things.

Periodically scrubbing the battery tops with a baking soda solution followed by a thorough rinsing with plain water works pretty well.
