Went to fast on 42v western?
Hello all, been scanning your site for years but this is my first post. I have a western elegante 42v that I believe has a motor issue. I was going down a steep hill and kept on the throttle while going down which helped the car reach a pretty fast speed, approx. 30mph. While doing this there was a loud pop and then a grinding noise. The cart wouldn't move after that. 20 minutes later it would go but only up to about 7 or 8 mph. At about 10 mph the cart starts to grind a little, starts surging and if you don't slow down will eventually quit running again and you have to let it cool down to go again. What did I break??? Where do I start???

I am surprised by people who stand on the gas until something breaks... I wonder if they do the same to their car?
Anyway, you will need a motor and possibly a speed control. |

Thought that was why they put the floor under the pedal; so you can push the accelerator all the way down and you'll have a way to rest your foot on long rides. Maybe there needs to be a time activated spring loaded mechanism that, after a few seconds of full thottle, it releases and shoves your knee back up into your face, causing black eyes and broken teeth.

I'm with you on this kab69440. The guy makes his first post and is treated to condescension, sarcasm and being talked about in the third person. What a nice welcome to the friendly world of BWG.
Flylow, I am sorry that I know nothing about electric carts or I would be happy to offer some genuine advice. Dave |

Re: Went to fast on 42v western?
Thanks Scotty and spoiled rotten for all the help. I have 3 carts right now so i am on here all the time, until now I was able to find any help I needed from searching the forums. Now I know that if I have problems in the future to just call my ex-wife. I probably won't get any answers from her either, but at least I will be expecting the low blows. Positive note, took this opportunity to get a high speed motor, now just hoping the controller is gone too so I can justify a new one of those also.

Re: Went to fast on 42v western?
I wasn't really targeting anyone for their replies. It's just that any idiotic idea for a "safety" device seems to become reality despite the existence of any arguement or fact proving its own counter-productivity. Curing the disease by killing the patient, as so to speak. I realize he made the remark in jest, but somewhere in an office far, far away... A bureaucratic Safety Specialist just saw a lightbulb turn on above his head, and is calling a lobbyist to petition Congress to make this new "safety device" standard equipment, and a mandatory retrofit. All this will be set in motion with a billion dollar research grant to "study" the non-existant problem, and find the cure for it, which will of course include this genius new device.
Oh, and his question has already been answered. |

Actually, It was answered in the first response...........
I would have never thought about what would happen if one ran wide open down hill like that. Of course, finding a hill in Fl. is also an issue. At least I know what to do when I need to justify new parts. |
