Solenoid goes again
I replaced the solenoid on my 92 marathon about 2 weeks ago and after a few days it stopped working. I replaced it again this week using the same stock solenoid from my dealer, and it went out again. Any ideas on what could keep causing it to go bad?

Re: Solenoid goes again
Either it is too small,the wrong type (not continuous duty), or you are leaving it on (energized) all the time.

Re: Solenoid goes again
Now that you mention it I've been leaving the keys in it while it's in the garage and maybe i've been leaving it on? I guess I'll try another one and not leave the keys in it :(

Re: Solenoid goes again
Make sure you have the proper resistor installed between the two large lugs ( 250Ω )!

Re: Solenoid goes again
Make sure your next solenoid comes from Scotty. After that you can rule out the solenoid as ever being a problem

Re: Solenoid goes again
I forgot to mention that even if the key is turned on, the solenoid should not engage until the pedal is pressed. If it does, you have a bad ( or jumped ) microswitch.

Re: Solenoid goes again
It should be as SM says but I have seen carts wire incorrectly (say it isn't so!) and they were ON all the time.
Resistor and diode are important. Solenoid & controller life could be compromised without them ... |

Re: Solenoid goes again
I replaced the diode and resistor on my second install, so I don't think it's that. So it seems like it's something else killing it? Voltage spikes? Where could it come from?
@scotty I couldn't find solenoids on your site. |
