Unhappy Yamaha G9 will not shut off!!!

I have a 1993 G9A - I just replaced the battery and starter solenoid and the cart starts right up, only problem is it won't shut off - not by releasing the accelerator or turning the key off - the only ways are to remove the battery cable or to remove one of the leads to the starter solenoid coil. If I rev the engine and remove the battery lead it shuts off so I assume the starter/generator is not generating. I can measure 10 volts across the solenoid coil while its running so its being energized. From the schematic it looks like the accelerator switch activates the ignition and regulator - the solenoid is activated by the starter field being activated - releasing the pedal removes power to the ignition & regulator releasing the solenoid - I think the starter is stuck in start mode causing power to be reflected back to the ignition causing the pedal & power switch to have no effect.

I spoke to the shop I bought the parts from & their thoughts were sticky accelerator cable or sticky starter solenoid both of which don't seem to be the case.

I'm guessing the issue is the voltage regulator or a wiring short. Has anyone seen this kind of problem?? if so, what was the resolution??

Thanks in advance,
Cyber-guys

Yes I've encountered the "AVR" voltage regulator cause this problem. Can you find a freinds cart (from G9 thru the new drive) and plug in the the other voltage regulator known to work? You've changed so many parts already, would hate to have you spend more $. Only concern..you should read battery voltage on all your tests (12 to 13 volts) 10 volts means there is a problem somewhere. Keep us posted. Dave

I have a G16 _ I wasn't sure if the regulator was the same - the schematic shows 3 wires on the 16, 4 on the 9. Looking for a replacement part it looks like everything from '91 on is the same.

The voltage at the battery is 12 but across the solenoid is 10 - if that leg of the regulator is open the drop might be across the field.

Anyways, I'll give the swap a try & see what happens.

Thanks
