Default Governor issue

The governor on the 97 TXT does not seem to be working what should I look for? I have adjusted the spring in and out and it does not seem to change anything seems as if it is bouncing off the rev limiter when I get up to speed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep I had tried that. Does not seem to change anything even with it all the way out or in. Thanks though.

I pulled the access cover off mine and would ride about 50 feet or so and set it a little and keep doing that till I finely got it right took a while, it was touchie. after it was set had to adjust the idle screw cause the carb wasn't closing all the way and it would backfire when you let off accelerator works great now. Good Luck

Thanks for your help. The problem I am having is it does not seem as if any change I make does anything. The speed is about 20mph and to me it sounds like it is getting to the rev limiter no matter how far I pull out the spring it does not change. Seems as if the governor is not working or something is disconnected.

Bringing up an old post!! I recently picked up a cart and I am having the same EXACT issues as the OP. Adjusting governed does not make any difference and it just keeps bouncing off the rev limiter when driving. Anyone have any suggestions???

Take a look into the thought of the carburetor and see if the butterfly is missing.
I have seen them "disappear" into exhaust air.
Hit the gas and your full throtel. No adjustments work.
One of the ones I saw was sandblasted due to no air filtration. Must have sucked up alot of sand/dirt and was over half worn away. Left the cart with no control of throtel what so ever.
Just a thought.

I can tell you in our case we ended up replacing the carb and we also had issues with the spark plug cables. It has been over a year now and it is still running great.
