82 G1 starting to clunk
Hello everyone. New to the forum. I have a 82 G1 that is in great shape and was running great until the other day. While the kids were riding it it started to get a clunking sound but it does not do it all the time. I have tried to find it but I don't know if it is coming from the engine or the trans. has anyone had this problem?

I think I'll atart with the clutch. If something bad happens I'll let you know about the muffler.

Re: 82 G1 starting to clunk
Augiedoggy, are you supposed to use some type of grease on those little plactic shoes on the rear clutch on the G1? And if so what type is best.
Thanks Calvin |

Re: 82 G1 starting to clunk
I'm not really sure...I use a tube of white lithuim grease on mine that I got from harbor frieght. I think greasing the shaft is really the important thing the plastic shoes are meant to absorb the wear, provide a smoother closing action by preventing metal rubbing against metal (which would clank without them).

Re: 82 G1 starting to clunk
After looking at the clutch I found that the three shoes on the one side of the clutch ramp had broke off and I have ordered them to see if this would solve the problem. thanks

Re: 82 G1 starting to clunk
Thanks Augiedoggy, are you supposed to just rub a gob of grease on the shaft?
Racinghauler, where did you buy the shoes from? Thanks again fellows, sorry about all the dumb questions, my old G1 is the first cart I ever had and just would like to do things right the first time. Calvin |
