Engine Continues To Run
I have 1990 single cylinder gas EZGO cart that continues to run when stopped. The switch can be turned off and the engine continues to turn over slowly until it kills the battery. I just put a new coil on it but the mounting bracket is missing; so the coil is not properly mounted yet. Any help would be great.
Thanks, PastorJ |

Re: Engine Continues To Run
Sounds like a stuck solenoid. If you put a stock coil on it, you need to mount by the protruding poles at the ends. I replace them with a resistor type automotive coil and bracket, they are alot cheaper and work well.

Re: Engine Continues To Run
Thanks for the advice! I will check the solenoid to see if it is the problem.

Re: Engine Continues To Run
Could you share exactly what automotive coil you used to replace the stock one? Thanks

Re: Engine Continues To Run
ezgocoil.jpgI don't have a part no. I get them from carquest, just ask for the round resistor type 12v ignition coil. They are a fraction of the cost of the stock coil. Be sure to use a metal core coil wire. They can be engine or frame mounted. Orange wire from the igniter goes to the negative terminal, green to positive.

Re: Engine Continues To Run
I would look into the start/stop switch that's activated when you press the gas peddle, it may be worn out/broken and not allow the circuit to open when you let off the gas.

Apaladin
I'm not sure what kind of automotive coil has been put on it. My father-in-law had something to do with it before he passed away and I am just trying to get it running for my daughter. The solenoid looks like it is new, so not sure it would be stuck. How do you check to see if the solenoid is stuck? I really do appreciate all of the advice. Looks like I came to the right place! |
