LED lighting question
I was wondering if there was a aftermarket LED headlight to put on an electric Club Car. I have been searching around Ebay and other sites but have not found anything other than LED tail lights. I was thinking (which is the root cause of the problem) that the LED would not drain as much on the battery as say a standard halogen would. This is strictly an offroad hunting cart so making sure I have enough battery vs. lights is a concern for making sure I get out.
Does anyone know of a LED head light? If not is there a particular type of head light that isnt hard on batteries but still practical? |

Re: LED lighting question
I've never heard of LED headlights. They are bright for maker lights but don't know if they will "throw" a beam. But if they don't make'm now, they will shortly.

Re: LED lighting question
I have never heard of them either but I figured with the LED flashlight craze and a lot of tail lights you see are LED thought maybe someone would be making a headlight somewhere.

Re: LED lighting question
I've gotten some similiar items for different applications (marker lights, domelights, flashlights) and they can get VERY bright. The multiple led's are smaller led's and the single 1watt is more powerful. Probably not as bright as 55w halogen bulbs, but for cruising the neighborhood and other basis driving should be worth the trade off of using less battery power.

Re: LED lighting question
My thoughts are to use the LED as a primary and have a set of halogens wired seperatly for back up when I really need to light things up. Thanks shlong for adding the link. I am assuming that these will go into a standard car light housing as a replacement. I notice that they only have one wire lead with a single spade coming off of it. Do you know how this is supposed to be hard wired in?

Re: LED lighting question
Hey Turktrax,
You may have already bought some LED lights for your ride, but I thought I'd add these to the info... on ebay, search for 4300K LED Fog Lamps they're $50 for the pair with free shipping (and instalation you'd think for that price!) I just bought all LED lights for my cart, not only to lessen the draw on the batteries, but so I can run other things on the converter with no overload problems. Here's a pic of the lights... they're 3" lights Hope this helps! |

Re: LED lighting question
Thanks segibbs. I suppose these are the ones you bought. Have you already mounted them and how bright are they for night use. No doubt they will save on battery usage and converter. I have yet to do any wiring work to my cart yet but I found a diagram on here about running lights without using a converter. The diagram I looked at for the 48V cart looks simple enough. Would you recommend though installing a converter?
I appreciate the info. I will check it out now. |

Re: LED lighting question
I've been told (I asked the same questions!) that you can probably get away with the lights on two 8 volt batteries, but, not to use that setup for the radios and other sensitive equipment. I'm not 100% positive, but I think you might get away with using just one 8 volt battery for the LED lights? Someone out there with a broader knowledge can answer that question! Either way, I plan on installing a converter for the stereo.
I just ordered the lights last night so I don't expect them until mid week. Once I do get them, it may be a while before I install them as I have to do body work and paint the cart before that happens. I will post pics and describe everything I put into the cart when I get there. The pic in my avatar is the one I'm customizing. I just bought the black and silver laquer paint for it today. This cart is already drainin' the bank account and I haven't even seen it run yet |
