dundeebarnbuggy, I was referring to turning the main 48v input of the converter on/off, not the low current trigger wire. Fuses need to be installed near the power source to be most effective.

Mooncarter, the trigger wire is there for convenience of turning the 12v OFF at the key switch.

I am sure You have all experienced the spark generated the first time you connect to the battery pack a Converter that does not have its capacitors charged.

If there is no 12v load, there is only a very small amount of current used to maintain the capacitors charged.

I know DPI makes some high end Converters they refer to as "no-spark" converters, but the vast majority of the Converters with a trigger wire maintain the 48v side always energized.

I had a 10a blade fuse in the 48v power wire. After the first one cooked and my temper cooled from getting "burned" by china again, I hooked up the one that came with the cart, 200w and put a 5 amp fuse in. It has been perfect so far. Thanks for the info on DPI reducers, didn't know they made them.
