Default Multi-Speed Switch

I need to set up a Precedent to be able to run at "normal" speed (or a lower speed) and at high speed. It is (or will be) 48V with high speed motor, probably larger wheels. I can see fine and want the high speed. My wife has poor vision and I need to be able to flip a switch and have the cart run slower for her (more like stock speed - although larger tires will make it a little faster) for her and everyone else's safety.

Is there a way I can flip a switch (or a two position - or would it be three position) key switch that would add a big resistor in the loop to reduce voltage to the motor? And would that be bad for the motor?

Do I have to look at maybe two controllers instead of trying to reduce the voltage to the motor?

The only way I know if is an after market programmable controller - like the Alltrax XCT series. They are programmable and you purchase FNKS and then you can program in three (3) different programs and it also has a regen knob for controlling it too. (All done with your laptop PC)

I know scottyb at Carts Unlimited and David Hicks at Revolution Golf Cars can help you. They are both site sponsors here and sell, program and work with those products.

What he said - I can set it up for you before we ship as you like.
However...You could actually do something with the OEM cart - you have now a reduced reverse speed. All you need is a switch to activate that reduced speed signal and you can switch it on and off at will.

If you are already contemplating putting in a high speed motor etc then my advice would be to do what NoleFan4Ever said and to get an Alltrax controller to go with your other new bits (it sounds like you'd be changing the controller anyway). As the others said the Alltrax XCT models will allow you to change all these parameters just with a laptop and to store the programs so that you can simply switch between them. If you don't feel comfortable programming it yourself, Scotty or Dave would set it up before they shipped it out.

Before you buy any upgrades talk to Scotty or Dave and they can advise you on how to get exactly the speeds you desire (all at the best prices around).
