old resistor 36v Club Car to 48v, speed gain?
Anybody got a guesstimate of how much more speed I'll gain on a series motor 36v 1985 DS with resistor control by going to 48v?
Picked up a parts cart for $400 but its complete enough to fix back up. Seems to just need batteries. It's gonna be used primarily to go 8-10 blocks round trip. I'm thinking of going with (4) 12v batteries instead of the usual (6) batteries. I know range will decrease due to diminished capacity but that's not an issue. |

It's not the range that'll be your issue. The parts on that cart are not rated for 48V. Yes, the motor can take it but the reverse switch and solenoids won't last long. Save your money for an Alltrax SR48300, SW182 reversing contactor, and 200A solenoid. You may have to change out that throttle box too to something like an electronic pedal. I've modified two early model DS carts. One was a 1990 vglide/resistor setup. I took it to an SR48500, 400A solenoid, SW202 reversing contactor, 2ga cables, and electronic foot pedal. At this point it was still 36V but the speed increased from around 8-9MPH to 14MPH. When the batteries went, I installed a lithium Leaf pack (58.4V) and now get 24MPH (same 36V motor). The other cart was a 2003 36V. I went with an SR48300, SW182, 200A solenoid, 4ga wires, and modified my vglide to be a resistor POT box. I also put a Leaf lithium pack in this one at 58.0V. It now gets about 20MPH. Not sure if the difference in speed of the two carts is because one has the SR48500 and the other has the SR48300 but I couldn't be happier with the modifications done on each of them.
