Default Rear shock replacement

Have a 2000 DS model. Trying to replace the rear shocks but cannot get a wrench on the top bolt. Is there an easy to do this that I am missing?

I had the same issue replacing the rear shocks on my DS. This is sort of crude but it worked for me as I did not want to remove the body piece. To remove, I clamped a needle nose vise grip plier to the upper shock nut and jammed it against the frame. Then took a small piece of rubber fuel hose about an inch long, slit it to wrap around the chrome shock shaft below the bushings to use as a grip for pliers and rotated the entire shock to unscrew out of the upper nut.

I did the same installing the new shocks. It just has to be snugged down, not vein popping torque tight.

BTW: Spray the nuts with something like PB Blaster and let it sit for 30 min.

Step one is put the cart in Tow if it has a Run/Tow switch, and disconnect the battery pack so you don’t drop a wrench across the motor studs and cook something.

Spray the nuts with penetrating oil.

I then remove the bottom nut and bushings, push the shock up to remove the lower stud from the mounting plate, pull the shock back and slightly towards the wheel on that side, secure it with a zip tie or bungee cord to keep it held back at an angle.
This angles the top stud forward slightly and makes it easier to get a socket on.
Now go in through the top with a 9/16” deep socket, a wobble adapter or u-joint adapter if necessary and a long extension. If the shock shaft spins clamp it with vice grips if you’re replacing the shock because it’s bad.
