Default Newbe to electric - How to remove motor??

I've got my cart stripped down to the frame. (CC DS 48v) Getting ready for new wire harness etc. Only thing I can't get apart is the motor. Bolts are out and the motor rotates pretty freely. The cast aluminum 'ring' between motor and bell housing is rotating with the motor. I've seen motor photos that show them with and without the cast ring. Does it come off with the motor? Do I need to leave the larger bolt that holds the ring to the bell housing in and steerage just the motor shell? Beat it with a hammer?
Motor is good and I'd like to not destroy it if possible. In general the cart has very little rust as it came from a dry climate, but there could still be corrosion on the shaft.

Any advice is great. I'm sure it's been covered but I didn't find much using the search.

Thanks

If all else fails put the brake drum on backwards to protect the studs and do this......

You are at the point where the motor should come off.
My GE motor has the ring and 4 bolts hold it on.
There is a splined shaft going into the center of the motor from the differential.
Mine slid right off the shaft, some are a real pain to get off.
Careful, it is heavy.
Some light taps on the sides of the motor housing might free it from the shaft.
Hopefully someone who has resolved an issue like this will have some tips.
Search Youtube there might be something.
I put antiseize of the splines when it was reassembled.

Thanks all. I got it off. Did the axle drop method. The motor housing fell off immediately. Turns out the screws that should hold the rear motor cover to the armature bearing were missing. Once that came off a few more slams on the driveway and the armature dropped free. There had bee a grinding or growling noise when driving. I figured maybe bad bearings or gears in the rear end so I bartered for a knnown good one. Turns out that since the aramature wasnt being held in hte right place the brushes had been wearinng into the wrong part of the motor. basically they were only about 3/4 of the way in contact with the comm bars and were grinnding up againnst other stuff. Bottom line-motor shot, but axle is great. Nice and smooth.

Was a little scary slamming the axle like that but worked a charm. Thanks.
