Default DS 48v 6 8v to 4 12v

Looking at purchasing a DS with dead batteries. It currently has 6 8v batteries and I have 4 new 12v US batteries laying around. I watched a Youtube video and the guy said the computer needed changed to go from 4 12 to 6 8...never heard of this before.

Two questions
1. will the computer need changed?
2. will the 4 12 fit in a tray thats designed for 6 8v?

Thanks in advance!

no computer problems switching over to 4 12's.

most likely the battery tray will need a little altering , fore 12's are larger in size

You will have to modify the tray to make them fit. I have done several 12 volt to 8 volt conversions without changing the OBC, so I don't see why it makes that big of difference.

You've probably already read it, but there is a reason all the manufacturers abandoned the 4 x 12V battery packs. Yes, they are a "little" cheaper, but hold less energy too. The key to electric carts is making the most of the power you can store onboard. The 12V pack starts you off at a disadvantage. If the decreased performance and run time are acceptable for the use you intend, then that's fine. Just be aware.

If you have 4 brand new 12 volt golf cart batteries, you are much better off selling those and putting 6 eight volts back into what you have.
