Default Buying Club Car.. 2013 questions

My local golf course has a 2013 Club Car Precedent they are selling for $2200.

I'm new to golf carts and have only been investigating them for about 2 weeks.

Anything I should know? Questions I should ask?

The golf course is private and very upscale..

They said the batteries were installed last year.

The golf course has a close relationship with my wife's boss of 18years. She asked if they had any carts they would be selling and this cart popped up.

I plan to add a rear seat and a lift kit and tires.. I live in the rural countryside and its hilly around here and can get a bit muddy sometimes. This would be used mostly for utility to drive around the property and local dirt roads.

I'm a big guy, pushing 6'4" and 290 lbs, although my wife is a toothpick, I've always been concerned about the carrying capacity of these units.

advice or suggestions?

Thanks

Take it out for a good test drive.

I'm your size, our Precedent has surprised us with its carrying capacity, pulling up grades (on pavement) w/4 Adults.

To me, the most important part about buying an Electric cart is the battery condition. This alone can turn a good deal into a bad deal.

1. Confirm the age of batteries
2. Test each battery and see how many volts they are holding. 8v batteries should read over 8 volts.
3. See if they have the appropriate water level.

With the cart, lift kit, tires and back seat you are going to be around at least $3500 if you do everything yourself. Then you will get tired of going 13-15mph and will want to upgrade the controller($550) and possibly the motor($550). When you do this you also have to upgrade wiring and solenoid. All the above is going to put you over $5000 easy. After lights, mirrors, seat covers, etc., plan on $6,000.

Just letting you know the upgrade process goes.

Thanks for the information folks. Unfortunately for me, it looks like I'm going to pass on this one.

The original information my wife got from her boss said the price was $2100.. I told her to request a photo.. then they upped it to $2200 and she told them I'd call at around noon to ask some questions. Then, when I called, the price was magically at $2300. LOL

I don't play those games.. this isn't a golf cart emergency so I have decided to pass on it.

Thank you again for your help.

I think a 2013 cart with 1 year old batteries in my area is a good deal. I think I'd look around to see what others close to you are selling for before I'd just blow that one off.

Depending on where you are, that could be a pretty good deal. Red is a rare color to see, too, from my experience. Offer them two grand and roll with it.

I offered him $2100.. he says some dealer is going to buy it for $2300 so I'm going to pass.

I've bought a lot of big ticket items in my half century on this planet, and one thing I've learned is to never be in a hurry.

The right deal will come along eventually. I may have to wait until the economy goes into a recession again. Bought my John Deere tractor that way... $18,000 value for $11,500 with three-point accessories. Same with the 10k trailer.. $1600 with less than 500 miles on it.

Patience usually works to my benefit... In the mean time, I think I'm just going to keep reading this website and helping out where I can.

Not bad advice. Had I gotten the first cart I was going to get, I'd have ended up with an older POS EZGo. That (fortunately) didn't pan out, and I ended up with my Precedent. If they were selling that cart to a dealer for $2300, then you were likely never really even considered. They had that lined up already, so F 'em.

Similar thing happened at my club when I bought my cart 3 months ago. I was originally told $2100 was going to be the trade in allowance for a 2017 Precedent with 2019 batteries.

Then another cart broker came in and started a bidding war for the clubs carts. I ended up having to pay $2500. But after researching everything out there, it was still a good deal.
