Western 400
I have replaced the motor, controller & solenoid after troubleshooting it using an easy go service manual. Still won't move. However i have discovered that with batteries disconnected & the charger receptacle wires connected i still have full battery pack voltage which is 43.5 volts in a 42 volt system. Which i should not have. When i remove the white wire from battery #1 the voltage goes away. When i reinstall the white wire from the charge receptacle the 43.5 voltage returns. Also the solenoid clicks with the B+ & the B- disconnected & the key switch in the run position. Any ideas?

The cart's charge receptacle has pack voltage on it 100% of the time unless one or both of the black or white wires from it to the battery pack is disconnected, or if so equipped, the 60A inline fuse is blown. With B- disconnect from the controller, the solenoid shouldn't click unless the Western is wired differently than an EZGO. What drive system, series or sepex? |

IIRC, pre-1995 EZGO carts didn't have a reed switch, and Western used a EZGO chassis, so it would have whatever control wiring that EZGO used that year. |

Re: Western 400
JohnnieB this is a series not sepex system. It does a have a reed switch in the charge receptacle. The reason i said i didn't think there should be full battery pack voltage with B+ & B- disconnected is i didn't realize that was the case with an Easy Go system which differs from a Club Car system slightly. I just can't figure out what's going on with this cart. I have never had one stump me like this.

Re: Western 400
OK. Lets proceed to basic diagnostics.
Does the solenoid click when you try to go? IF the solenoid clicks, what is the voltage reading between controller B- and M- when it does click. And does this B- to M- voltage reading go down as the peddle is pressed down? |
