Lift Kits under 4" for a gas G16?
I would like to run 20" AT's on 10" wheels for use on a (yikes) golf course! Everything I read says must have lift kit but barely. Jakes offers a 3" but only for newer models, seems like the 4" economy is the only option.
I am thinking about a local shop fabricating a 1" or 1.5" shock extender. Not sure how to handle the steering links or if I would even have to for that height. Has anyone ever heard of this "mild" of a lift and how was it accomplished? Or am I off base and actually need all 4" of lift to run 20" tires on a 99 G16? |

You can't raise the front of a G16 with just a longer shock, you will run into major camber issues.

Re: Lift Kits under 4" for a gas G16?
It may depend on what tires you are talking about. On older yamaha G2/9 you can run 20 lawn tires, but not atv tires as the tread sticks out much more on those. These were on stock 8" wheels but that should not matter. I put 20x8 front and 20x10 rear lawnmower traction tires on a couple carts for people because they were getting stuck in wet grass and light trails. These people had mobility issues they were not hotrodding. This was on the stock wheels with no offset changes. Traction was much better than stock tires, however they are prone to punctures in rough conditions as they are only 2 ply.
Most 4" lifts are for fitting 22 atv tires, 3" for 20 atv tires, though the lift should state what they can fit for tires or the seller should know. |

Re: Lift Kits under 4" for a gas G16?
Not sure I would worry that much, its not going to be much difference. It used to be the lift was figured with the tire, so a 4" lift was 2" lift from the tires (22-18/2=2) and 2" from the lift to make the body clear the tires. Now they all vary of course, but originally that was how a lift was measured by the lift makers and the floor of the cart was 4" higher than a stock cart on stock 18 tires. So if you use 20 tires you lose 1" of lift and get a 3" lift in reality. I doubt it will look lifted really high, but yes it will look lifted some.
Or you mod the lift to lower it to what clears the tires. Or make your own lift. I lifted mine with a welder back in '99. |
