Yamaha G2 solenoid issue
I picked up a 1985 Yamaha G2. new battery, plug, air filter and fuel filter. Carb cleaned out. Was turning over and fired a couple times. Now it won't even turn over. positive cable from solenoid to starter generator was shot so i replaced it. I checked voltage through new cable and voltage is reading 12v in all the right spots. I cannot get the solenoid to click, but the car turns over when i bypass the solenoid. When i hookup my meter to the positive battery post with the car on and the accelerator pressed down, i read 12v from all 4 solenoid posts. However, when the car is on and the accelerator is pressed down and i put the meter on the # 1 and #2 posts (small primary posts) i get no read and no click.
Please help! Matt |

Re: Yamaha G2 solenoid issue
There is a pedal switch on the throttle pedal that supply's power to the solenoid when you press the throttle. Check that out for sticking!!
Could possibly be a blown fuse issue. |

Re: Yamaha G2 solenoid issue
Just reread, if you get no contanuity across the 2 small contacts, then I would suspect a failure there!! Test a new one before you buy!!

Re: Yamaha G2 solenoid issue
Take the middle floor panel off and put a jumper cable between the two wires going to the pedal switch and it should roll over. If it rolls over its not the solenoid but the pedal switch that's bad. The center floor panel is a great option that's not offered on those G8's.

Re: Yamaha G2 solenoid issue
Just take out the reusable plastic rivet, fold the mat over to the passanger side and there's the metal acsess panel.
