Well, the nice thing is, it's all pretty easy to get to. I'll do a tune up this weekend. I don't see any issues with the cable but haven't messed with anything really over there yet. The carb doesn't appear to take ANY movement until well after the throttle is pressed. maybe 30 or 40% before the butterfly takes tension.. I will do an oil/filter/fuel filter change this weekend. Any suggested additives or reassembly oil I should use to clean up the valves? Thanks again.

Had a 2006 fe350 doing the same thing. Found a hole in the exhaust pipe up near the top. About 1/4". Was where they welded the heat shield of the exhaust pipe to the pipe. Broke loose and left the hole. Would backfire about 50% of time when stopping for a light, maybe 1-2 seconds after stopping. Torqued in a short pan head screw in that hole and no more backfire.
