Default G14A - Jake's Power Kit with stock 8"rims? Need to replace splined collar anyway...

Hi everyone! New guy here but not new to mechanical bits in general! Looking forward to all that playing with a cart entails...

I recently picked up a '95 G14a for a pretty good price. Not perfect, but good bones, solid motor. Already having some fun, added the streamline headlight/taillight kit and have other plans for it.

I've already completed a service with all filters, lube, packed the steering box, oil change, new 2es plug, valve adjustment, belts, etc but I'm getting a noise from the rear. It looks like it is coming from the secondary clutch spring mount rubbing on or hitting the rear housing when running at higher speed (10+ mph). It appears whatever spacer was there is gone.

I looked it up and it looks like $20/shipped roughly for just the splined collar so I figure I might as well just go for a power kit like Jake's as I'm going to do that anyway. No point in buying a $20 part, then later buying a kit and throwing it on the shelf...

My question is I'm on stock 8" now with whatever stock tires are. Top speed with the governor cranked down I'm seeing 16-17mph (cart is probably a little tired...). It will be a little while before I go with a 6" lift and bigger tires and the pick up is decent as is.

So finally the main question. If I go with Jake's power kit (which I understand is a big torque improvement) will I loose top end? If anything I'd like to GAIN top end. Also anything else besides the collar and sheave bearing you'd recommend? The input shaft feels fine with no odd play so hoping I'm good there.

Thanks for the help and I look forward to posting and contributing into the future!

My opinion, if your not using Plowmans clutches, then a Umax spring is the next best way to go!!

Read up on here, then make your own decision!!

Either way, you need the spacer, (it replaces the C-clip) behind the spring seat!!

Looking for more speed, need to by-pass the governor!! But that makes it possable to over rev the motor!!

Thanks for the heads up!

I ordered a number of parts and picked up one of those Umax springs as well. Hopefully it will all help a good bit.

Next up is to tear down the carb for cleaning, change the diff oil with some RedLine I have lying around and maybe look at a jet kit. Kind of addicting stuff...

i see it like this. any of the G22 and prior carts that get any major clutch service should get the splined collar to replace the snap ring. even if the snap ring and groove look fine, its just a liability to cause decreased performance and/or transmission case damage, especially if any stiffer than stock spring is used (including Umax spring).
