Default High Speed Gear Change

Hello
I would like feedback from anyone that has changed to the 8:1 high-speed gears. How hard of a job is it and what kind of results did you have? I normally only drive on flat pavement and sometimes drive on the beach. I have a DS with the FE290 and run about 22 MPH at 3600RPM. I would like at the same or higher cruise speed at less rpm.
Thanks!

I swapped gears on my 96. Simple to do if you have a press. I chose to replace the bearings since they were easy to source NTN bearings, but they are different sizes so confirm the part numbers etched on them prior to ordering. The pinion shaft (small gear) gets replaced entirely. The spur (large gear) gets installed on the stock shaft. When you remove the rear end, set it vertically on a flat surface with the right rear tire still attached and set that on the floor. It makes for a nice stable work stand. My gasket was trashed, and had a heck of a time finding a replacement so I just used a light coat of gray RTV.
