2013 Precedent Jerks on Start Up
2013 precedent is jerking on initial start. Put it in maintenance mode and it appears that the Drive clutch is sticking at low RPM. As the rpm's rise it appears to break free and engage.
What next? Can these be cleaned, rebuilt, or do I need to just replace the whole clutch? |

Re: 2013 Precedent Jerks on Start Up
Yes they can be cleaned. Around our campground we have TONS of dust & dirt in the air, particularly when golf carts are stirring it up. I've had some luck blasting between the cover and moving sheave with compressed air, but the best is to go ahead, take it off and open it up. Resist the urge to put lubricants in there though. They tend to give the dirt somewhere to stick. If the arms or pivots are too far worn, causing them to bind, there are parts available to rebuild much cheaper than replacing the whole clutch.

Re: 2013 Precedent Jerks on Start Up
Not terribly difficult if you have the proper tools. The bolt that holds the clutch on is 9/16" or 14mm hex head but reverse threads - turns counter clockwise to remove it. Easiest to do with an impact and long extension. There are puller tools for both the removal of the clutch from the crankshaft and for removal of the cover from the rest of the clutch. For example:

If compressed air doesn't do it, and you do decide to open it up,
you might as well replace the "buttons" while your at it! Worn buttons are 80% of the cause of the drive clutch sticking. https://www.golfcartking.com/club-ca...ch-button-kit/ |

Re: 2013 Precedent Jerks on Start Up
Will i have to take the body off to get the clutch off? I looked at yesterday and it looks pretty tight. Any suggestions that dont involve taking the whole cart apart?
