Default 2001 CC has starting issues

So, I have a new battery and it has run flawless until now it sometimes won't start. If I move the starter belt a little bit it fires right up. The battery is till at 12.66 volts. Why all of a sudden is it doing this? Any suggestions. Thanks!

Sounds like work brushes in the starter generator to me. If you roll the engine back off of the compression stroke will it turn over then?

Worn** you can pop the caps off the back of the starter and see if they are raised or down flush

Definitely sounds like worn brushes. I have experienced this a couple times. also check the commutator (copper part brushes make contact with) when you take the starter generator apart. I learned the hard way that it needs to be smooth and just sanding them lightly wont always work. If you need to replace the entire unit, go with OEM. *learned that the hard way too!
