No spark 1981 ezgo need help bad
OK my golf cart friends...I'm stuck and need help bad...
Here is what I have: 1981 ezgo three wheeler with a 244cc Robin engine 2pg.... Here is what happened:...I have had this cart running for several years with no problems. A couple months ago the starter/generator belt broke. I didn't see it at the time but when the belt broke it broke the gas line..Put a new belt on and tried several times to crank it, realized the gas line was off so I replace it...From that point on, I HAVE NO SPARK... Here is what I have done: Have NO idea what the above has had to do with no spark...I have replace with new....spark plug, spark plug wire, solenoid, ignition coil, voltage regulator, ignitor, and pulser coil. I still have no spark..Cart has about 120lb compression.... One thing I have noticed from the beginning is I have continuity everywhere, and I mean everywhere...from any post to any post everywhere on the engine...If I separate any one thing out of the circuit it brakes the continuity, but each thing shows good by itself...Yes, I have checked wiring with diagram and marked off each wire...Wiring is correct....everything is new....Im stumped and need your help... Thanks...I will check back often.. Bill |

Re: No spark 1981 ezgo need help bad
That's definitely a pickle, but I would start by checking all (and I do mean ALL) your grounds, pull and clean them, tighten, etc - also, just for fun, with the cart jacked up just in *case* it decides to start, check the voltage at the coil terminals when the pedal is depressed and the cart is turning over (obviously you should have 12vdc) - it's fairly common to find a brand new "bad" coil.
If you have 12v to the coil when turning over, then we backtrack ... Hit the grounds first though, that's the most common issue when the symptoms you have provided show themselves |

Re: No spark 1981 ezgo need help bad
Thanks brew city...I have been broken down for a few days myself but was able to get out and do some checking on the cart...I double checked all the grounds...all are good and most grounds hook up to other parts that are new...Over the years I have read that some golf cart are grounded only to the motor...Mine is grounded also to the frame which last year I installed a heavy duty car ground....but was running fine then..
I tested the ignition coil...I have 10.55 volts going to the spark plug wire....I have 12.?? volts on the wire from the solenoid to the coil and have 10.55 volts on the coil wire coming from the voltage regulator......If I remember right that is the same voltage I had with my old coil....I know the solenoid wire was 12 but the other two were less than 12 like maybe 10plus.....Also while check the voltage on both coil wires and spark plug wire mashing on the gas peddle made NO difference as far as voltage... Thanks and waiting to hear from you Bill |
