Default 81 marathon poor performance, looking for ideas

My marathon sat for about 10 years. I did a full rebuild of the 244. Compression is currently about 120. When I first got it running, I noticed that the drive clutch operated normally, but the driven clutch was not opening/closing at all, which made my top speed about 8 mph. Took it off, cleaned and lubed everything, and stretched the spring about a 1/2 inch. This increased my top speed to about 12-15 mph. Better, but still not good enough. Shimmed the drive clutch with a 1/4'' washer under the spring (against the spider). I didn't notice any significant torque increases, nor top speed for that matter. Only difference I noticed is a clunking sound when it initially engages now. I am assuming that the clutches are just tired. It has become painfully apparent that the cart was ridden very hard earlier in its life. By the way, both belts are new and have had many hours of use. I know I can get the shorter belt, but I KNOW that this little cart should be performing better than it is now, even with the stock-length belt.

Does anyone know where I can get fresh springs for these clutches? Both clutches appear to be original to the cart.

I did not shim the driven clutch when I disassembled it. What type of shim (and how large) do I need to shim the driven clutch?

Any other ideas would be appreciated. Heres a pic of the clutches, just so its clear.

The belts are new. Probably 3 to 4 hours of run time on them.

And yes, I've had the carb in pieces several times. Cleaned thoroughly. All lines are new. Cart runs really smooth. Revs well.

Haha. Sorry offtwice, I've put way too much $ into this cart to start a conversion like that at this point. Maybe on the next one.

I've been contemplating just buying new clutches, but the 400.00 + shipping is going to sting badly. I'm just hoping someone can give me a good lead on some new springs.

Ive checked several different site sponsors, and other various outfits with no luck. Somebody has to sell them somewhere. And yes, I've got the cart in Savannah. GO CHIEFS!
