rebuilding a 295 robbin question
iv got a early 94 295 robbin and im looking to do a rebuild befor things get bad.My question is that i would like to beef it up a touch ,can i bore out the cylinders to a 350 piston ? will it work with the deck height that is their are they the same as a 295 just bigger around? also how much could i deck the head?before it messes with timinig or valve clearance.

Re: rebuilding a 295 robbin question
The 350 pistons will not work with the 295 crank. Both engines have the same deck height but different stroke. With the 295 crank the 350 pistons will not come flush to the deck as they do stock because the wrist pin location is closer to the top on the 350 piston. There is both a bore and stoke difference.

Re: rebuilding a 295 robbin question
How about using a 350 crank then? The connecting rods are interchangeable, ain't they?

Rods are the same. Crank is expensive but if you've got it spend it,it will work.

Re: rebuilding a 295 robbin question
Ok so blocks are different then to accommodate 350 pistons because of the placement of the wrist pin. Would i start with a 350 block and crank then and use my 295 head?

Re: rebuilding a 295 robbin question
yes, you could but but remember you are working with an engine that does not have a crank caps or bearings. It is basically a throwaway motor. Not a good candidate for increased compression in my opinion.

Re: rebuilding a 295 robbin question
You can bore the 295 block to fit the std. 350 pistons, there is plenty of sleeve in there but no room for overbore after you wear it out. It takes a long time to wear out a well maintained robbin engine. I have done this mod. using the 295 head, it works out well.

Re: rebuilding a 295 robbin question
So the 350 piston will work, the wrist pin location does not effect it?

Re: rebuilding a 295 robbin question
350 pistons will work with a 350 crank only. If you want a 350 buy one, if you want to build one from a 295 you need both the pistons and the crank.
