Go with Bob. For sure! He’s incredible and knows everything there is to know about those things.

I just picked up a used 2012 RXV (48v) date code (J1312) for my teen kids to get around in the community. The person I bought it from bought it CPO from a local dealer last year with new, batteries (4 Trojan 12v), new wheels and tires, new body with light kit.

Right now it's 12-13 MPH max and I am looking for just a bit more speed to keep up with my Gas Cart 15-17 MPH. Right now the 2-3 MPH makes a difference. I am not looking to unlock to freedom mode - just a bit more MPH.
Is there something I can do myself, a scanner tool to buy? I am fairly handy and preferable this is something I can do myself as the dealer here charges $175 for just pick up.

At the worst case if this is not something I can do myself (tool cost too much for one time use) what controller is recommended? I am not sure I want to spend $1,000 on the Navitas, nor am I sure I want the kids to have the ability to make the cart faster on the fly. I like that for myself but not for the kids.

I greatly appreciate the help.
FWIW, the navitas OTF programmer comes with a key so you can set the speed and lock it. Also, if you look hard you can find the Navitas for a couple hundred less than that.

However, by far the most economical route is to send yours to Bob and let him program it (assuming yours is a Curtis Controller, some of the 2012's had Dannahers which I don't think Bob does).

Ahh, next time I am up at the house I’ll confirm what controller I have. I’ve searched this board well enough to know how to tell what controller I have.

So 2012 could have either or? My date code is J1312 - I am not sure that’s helpful in identifying what I might have.

I guess that will be what my deciding factor is if Bob doesn’t do the Dannahers.
I really have no need to go to fast, I just want it to keep up with my gas cart which is 16-17 mph. I’d be ok with 19.

Should I send this to Bob do I need to upgrade anything else?

I am fairly certain it’s the stock 6 gauge cables. I know for sure if I upgrade the controller I need to go to 4 awg but 2 awg is recommended.

Your cart was made in October so it should have a Curtis controller in it.

Yes go with the 2 awg cables if you have 4-12v batteries you need the following:
E-Z-GO RXV Battery Cables Lengths 2 AWG With TINNED COPPER 5/16 Lugs

1. Batteries 2-11” and 1-13” Blue.

2. Main Positive to Solenoid 27” Red.

3. Main Negative to Controller B- 36” Black.

4. Solenoid to Controller B+ 10” Red.

This is for 4-12v RXV battery Set-Up….

@usgicollector - you are super helpful. Thank you!!!

Is it necessary for me to upgrade my cables after Bob modifies the speed to 17 MPH? I am not looking to go any faster.

Are there other general reasons why upgraded cables make sense?

Above you have 6 cables to source but every 48v RXV kit I see online sells 5. The one that seems to be mission from the kits is #4 Solenoid to Controller.

Out of curiosity why do the kits not include that one?

Bob is really awesome, just installed mines that he programmed. It really woke up the sleeping ponies in the cart.

What was done to it? I am in a community where the carts are suppose to be regulated to 15mPH but there are some that go faster and some
Like my 2012 RXV goes slower. I just want this one to keep up with my gas cart at 17 MPH.

Rxv on stock tires will run at mid 20s with just a few tweaks and will also do that with a rear seat loaded with people.
